Hotel for Dogs is a 1988 American animated comedy film produced by Paramount Feature Animation and Kroyer Films, and released by Paramount Pictures. It is the 30th feature film produced by the studio. It was directed by Bill Kroyer and David Silverman, produced by George Burke and Lana Ponce, and written by David N. Weiss and Flint Dille. The film based on the 1971 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan. It features the voices of Robyn Lively, R.J. Williams and Robin Williams. The film tells the story of two kids who secretly take in stray dogs at a vacant hotel.
The film was theatrically released on December 9, 1988 in the United States, to generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, grossing $125.5 million. It was followed by a live-action film version (co-produced by DreamWorks Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies) of the original story, which was released on January 16, 2009.

In 1983, it was announced that Paramount Pictures had won the bidding war against The Walt Disney Company and Universal Studios over the film rights for the 1971 children book Hotel for Dogs to make a traditionally-animated film adaptation.

Hotel for Dogs opened on December 9, 1988, a week after Paramount's another film The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! was released in the same month.
The theatrical release of the film was preceded by Kroyer Films' Technological Threat.
Home media[]
Hotel for Dogs was released on VHS on August 15, 1989, as well as LaserDisc in regular pan and scan by Paramount Home Entertainment. The VHS version was made available once more on October 1, 1996, under the Paramount Family Favorites label with the bonus short film Technological Threat.
The film was released on DVD for the first time on November 10, 1998, and re-released in April 26, 2005, under the Paramount Animation Collection label on April 26, 2005. On December 16, 2008, a two-disc DVD was released for the film's 20th anniversary, featuring much of the bonus material from the 2005 DVD as well as newer features, such as a sneak preview of a 2009 live-action film version of the same name and the 2009 Paramount animated film Virtual Journey.
The film was released for the film's 30th anniversary on Blu-ray on December 3, 2018, as part of Paramount Signature Collection. On March 4, 2021, Hotel for Dogs, along with most Paramount Animation films, was available on Paramount+.
