Penelope Edward Christina Fleischer (/'flaɪ̯ʃɐ/; September 25, 1937 - February 25, 2021) was an American animator, inventor, film director and producer who is best known for creating several cartoon characters for the Noveltoons franchise such as Blake the Cat and Max Quiz, as well as My Dear Sweetheart, The Snow Queen, East of the Sun and West of the Moon, ToonMania, Get Loose!, The Crawler, Liger and Ratty Show, and Jeremy Jaguar. She had four kids (two being daughters and two being sons).

Fleischer died on February 25, 2021 at age 84, due to stage IV breast cancer.

Fleischer was married to British-American author and writer Steven Applegate on May 12, 1985. She had 4 children with him.

Death[]

On February 25, 2021, at 1:34AM PST, while having treatment for stage III breast cancer, Penny Fleischer fell unconscious in her hospital bed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California. She was pronounced dead at 1:47AM, with the autopsy revealing the breast cancer evolved to metastatic stage IV, leading to her eventual death.
