Production[]

Following the commercial success of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, director Jeff Fowler pitched a Sonic the Hedgehog TV show to Nickelodeon. Paramount Television Studios picked up the project, and began development on the show in May 2022. Most of the film's cast reprise their roles, except for Jim Carrey. In April 2022, Carrey announced his retirement from acting, with him saying "I've done enough, I have enough, I am enough," and also said that:

"I’m being fairly serious. It depends, if the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road but I’m taking a break."

Patrick Warburton stepped in to fill Carrey's role of Dr. Robotnik. The animation was produced at Marza Animation Planet, who did the animation for the films and the short film. Visual effects were produced by Blur Studio.
