The Brady Kids is a 2016 American animated comedy film produced by Paramount Animation. It is the 67th feature film produced by the studio. It was directed by Zadien Fischer and Todd Merritt from a screenplay by Merritt and Brain Lynch and a story by Fischer and Julie Young, and stars the voices of Selena Gomez, Max Charles, Ava Acres, Jesse McCartney, Zachary Gordon and Ty Simpkins.

The Brady Kids was released in the United States on February 26, 2016, by Paramount Pictures. It received mixed reviews from critics, with many of whom praising the colorful cartoony animation, humor and voice acting, while criticizing the predictable story and writing. The film grossed $858 million worldwide against its $110 million budget, making it the fifth highest-grossing film from Paramount Animation, as well as the tenth highest-grossing film of 2016.

An animated series of the same name premiered on Paramount Kids on November 15, 2019.

  • Selena Gomez as Marcia Brady, a 16-year old teenager and the leader, and a beautiful, mature, and popular girl.
  • AnnaSophia Robb as Jan Brady, the bespectacled 14 year-old kid and a member, and many of her storylines often involve Jan being jealous of her seemingly more popular older sister, Marcia, or Jan's awkward position as the middle child.
  • Ava Acres as Cindy Brady, an 11-year old kid and a member, a naive, but occasionally precocious little girl, who was most often seen wearing her hair in corkscrew curls or braids and had a pronounced lisp.
  • Jesse McCartney as Greg Brady, an 18-year old teenager and a co-leader. he plays football, plays guitar, surfs, and aspires to be a singer.
  • Zachary Gordon as Peter Brady, an 15-year old teenager and a member. he often thinks badly of himself, such as believing he has no personality.
  • Ty Simpkins as Bobby Brady, a precocious and often overlooked 12-year old kid and a member. He is a whimsical dreamer, fantasizing about having various adventurous lifestyles, such as being a race car driver, a cowboy, and an astronaut.

Zadien Fischer had always wanted to do an animated film based on the 1960s television series The Brady Bunch. In March 2013, Paramount Animation announced that Fischer was directing an animated film based on The Brady Bunch titled The Brady Kids, with John Cohen producing while Brian Lynch is writing the screenplay. This marked Cohen's return to Paramount Animation in 16 years after departing the studio.

In August 2016, it had been confirmed that Rupet Gregson-Williams would be composing the score for the film. The soundtrack was released on February 26, 2016 by Columbia Records.

Release[]

The film released in the United States and United Kingdom on February 26, 2016 and in Australia on March 25, 2016. It was also released in IMAX theaters in the EMEA region.

Marketing[]

The first trailer was released online at Paramount Animation's YouTube page on May 7, 2015. The official theatrical trailer for the film was released on September 2, 2015. The final trailer was released on December 16, 2017.

A mobile game titled The Brady Kids Blast was released on January 20, 2016 for iOS and Android. It is a free-to-play match-three puzzle video game featured with the characters of the film. Paramount partnered with McDonald's to release six Happy Meal toy versions of the film's characters upon its release. AMC Theatres also partnered with Paramount to play the movie in Mandarin at seven theatres and in Spanish at 14 locations in the U.S and Canada meaning there will be a mix of subtitled and dubbed formats of The Brady Kids. Other companies also joined with Paramount to promote the film, including General MillsFunko, Ziploc and McFarlane Toys.

Home media[]

The Brady Kids was released on Digital HD on May 10, 2016 and on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on June 14, 2016. On March 4, 2021, the film, along with The Brady Bunch and other Paramount Animation films, became available on Paramount+.
