The Missing Journey is a 1975 American animated fantasy adventure film produced by Paramount Cartoon Studios. It was directed by Don Patterson and written by Lana Ponce. It is the 21st feature film produced by the studio. Featuring the voices of Stephen Shea, Pamelyn Ferdin, Helen Shaver, Will Ryan, Mel Blanc, Frank Welker and Charles Nelson Reilly, the film follows a young boy discovers a girl with mystical powers who travel together through beautiful environments whilst being stalked by the Queen of the Castle.

The Missing Journey was released on September 21, 1975 and received positive reviews with praise to its animation, story, characters, and voice acting. The film was a financial success, grossing $45.8 million worldwide on a $10 million budget during its initial run. The film is notable for being the debut of Crawler, Liger and Ratty, a trio of supporting characters portraying as henchmen (or known as “henchanimals”) to the Queen of the Castle, who would later appeared in other animated features produced by Paramount Animation, alongside spinning-off into their own franchise with comics, video games, feature films and merchandising featuring the trio.

Home media[]

The Missing Journey debuted on Super 8 film and several home video formats in 1980, including VHS, Betamax, CED Videodisc, Video8 and LaserDisc, which were distributed by Paramount Home Video. It was later released under Paramount Home Entertainment brand on VHS and Laserdisc in 1990 and again on VHS in 1996 under the Paramount Family Favorites label.

The film was released on DVD for the first time on July 9, 2002 under the Paramount Animation Collection label. On October 11, 2005, a 2-disc DVD set called the "30th Anniversary Edition" was released and included special features such as audio commentary from both individuals and an interview featurette. The film was also released on DVD on October 5, 2010 as a 35th Anniversary Edition, and later on Blu-ray on March 29, 2011. Both releases retained the special features of the 20th Anniversary Edition. On March 4, 2021,, The Missing Riddle, along with other Paramount Animation films, was available on Paramount+.
