The Prince and the Pauper is a 1981 American animated musical adventure comedy-drama film produced by Paramount Cartoon Studios and released by Paramount Pictures. It is the 25th film produced by the studio. Loosely based on the novel of the same name by Mark Twain, it was directed by George Burke and Lana Ponce. Featuring the voices of Frankie Avalon, Lisa Maxwell, and Jim Cummings, the film tells the story of two little kids who were born on the same day and are identical in appearance: Perrie, an orphaned pauper girl, and Prince Edward, son of King Henry VIII of England. When the two kids meet, they exchange identities and lives to see each other's lives while, unknowingly to them, the villainous herald and sorcerer Shire plans to take over England.

The Prince and the Pauper was released on November 20, 1981 and received positive reviews from critics, who praised its animation, musical score, voice performances and songs, but criticized the idea about a female pauper instead of a male pauper like in the original story. The film was a financial success, grossing $25.8 million worldwide on a $10 million budget during its initial run. In recent years, the film has garnered a cult following.
