The Princess and the Hidden Underground is a 1961 American animated feature film directed by Nancy Farwell, written by George Hill and Irving Dressler and based on the German fairy tale of the same name by Andrew Lang.
The 12th Paramount animated feature film, it was produced by Paramount Cartoon Los Angeles and released on August 23, 1961 by Paramount Pictures, and it was grossed $8.5 million in distribution rentals over a $2 million budget, making it the sixth animated feature film to be distributed by Paramount.

In 1955, producers Seymour Knietel and Isadore Sparber optioned the feature film rights to the fairy tale "The Princess Who Was Hidden Underground" while it was in post-production on White Fang. It received $1 million to fund the film, with a total salary of $5 million, and Paramount Pictures was set to distribute the film.
