Release[]

The World of Fairy Tales was originally slated for release on November 25, 1992, to compete with Walt Disney Pictures' Aladdin. However, after the box office failure of An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, Paramount changed the film's release from November 1992 to October 1992 in avoid competition with Aladdin, with Viacom Animation's The Children of California taking its place.

The World of Fairy Tales was the fourth feature-length live-action/animated film after Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Rock-A-Doodle and Paramount's own Cool World. However, unlike the live-action characters from that film sharing the screen with animated characters, Mariana Grimm is the only live-action character to share the screen with the animated characters at the beginning before she become an animated character.
