Production and release[]
Although The Zany Quest Begins had been rated highly amongst children and adults in test screenings, Paramount decided to release it direct-to-video rather than spending money on marketing a wide release, just like A ToonMania Summer Vacation. Toonatics: The Zany Quest Begins was originally slated for its VHS release in November 1999, but was pushed forward to February 22, 2000. It is the second Toonatics production to use digital ink and paint. On July 20, 2009, The Zany Quest Begins was released for rental or purchase on iTunes. The Zany Quest Begins has also aired on cable networks such as Nickelodeon, Showtime, Nicktoons, UltraToons and more recently on Paramount Kids. It is also available to download from the PlayStation Store. The film was released on DVD on November 8, 2011. It was also Russi Taylor's final performance as Batina Bat before her death in 2019.
