Development[]

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were approached with the idea of another Toony Tales feature film being made in December 2016. However, Miller stated that as a partial result of the negative reception toward Game Zone, they "were very reluctant on making another [Toony Tales] movie", although the film had performed well financially. In 2018, Lord and Miller returned to the idea and pitched a script for a Toony Tales sequel to Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies.

In 2021, Nickelodeon CEO Brian Robbins confirmed that a new Toony Tales had entered development after Paramount Animation CEO Ramsey Naito had approved of the script pitch. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were tasked with writing the screenplay, while they were also tasked with writing the story with Jay Scherick and David Ron, who co-wrote the screenplay for The Smurfs (2011). Brad Peyton was later revealed to be directing the film, with the title of the film yet to be revealed.

Casting[]

Montana Jordan, who had a starring role on the CBS sitcom Young Sheldon, was confirmed to star in Toony Tales: One Last Ride as Matt, a college student studying computer science. Jordan described the filming process as "an overall exciting experience".
