Virtual Journey is an American media franchise created by Dallas Sharp and Mike Moon for Paramount Animation. The first film in the franchise was released on July 31, 2009. The film spawned three sequels; Level Two in 2013, Next Dimensions in 2017, and Game Changer in 2021.

The success of the films spawned two television series: Virtual Journey: The Series - produced by Paramount Television Animation for Nickelodeon - and Virtual Journey: Dimensional Mayhem - produced by Paramount Television Animation for Paramount+. Additionally, it spawned four spin-off video games based on each film.

Films[]

Virtual Journey (2009)[]

The first installment of the series was released on July 31, 2009, and was directed by Mike Moon in his directorial debut and written for the screen by Nicholas Stoller and John Hamburg. It follows Kasey Jones, an 18-year-old gamer who suddenly stumbles upon an online universe deep inside the realms of the magic arcade cabinet. In the meantime, Kasey later joined Karissa to stop an evil person who plans to corrupt the video game universe.

Virtual Journey: Level Two (2013)[]

The second installment in the series was released on August 23, 2013, with Mike Moon returning to direct. Three years after the events of the first film, it focuses on Kasey Jones, Karissa June and their friends as they take a journey to a place called Retrotopia. During their adventure, Kasey, Karissa and the gang encounter many strange commodities of Retrotopia. However, after rescuing a swordswoman from a gang of glitches led by Cyber, they soon discover a new foe is planning to destroy both Retrotopia and Virtual World, so they must stop him before it's too late.

Virtual Journey: Next Dimensions (2017)[]

The third installment in the series was released on May 19, 2017. In the film, Karissa learns that Francesca had kidnapped Kasey, G.A.M.E., Bitly, Nyasia, Quickly, Frida, and Zain. She must go through the alternate dimensions to save her friends; in order to save them and stop Francesca, she must team up with the Dimensional Gang, led by Makaila.

Virtual Journey: Game Changer (2021)[]

The fourth and latest installment in the series was released on May 14, 2021. In the film, Kasey and Karissa discovered that their a hidden world beyond the Dimensional World, called the Lost Connection. So, Kasey, Karissa and their friends as they take a journey to the Lost Connection. However, a deadly virus is planning to cause an incoming cataclysm against the place. So, Kasey, Karissa and the gang must team up together to stop the virus.

Television shows[]

Virtual Journey: The Series (2014-2018)[]

With the success of the films, a spin-off television series was produced by Paramount Television Animation and distributed by Paramount Worldwide Television Licensing & Distribution for the Nickelodeon cable channel. It features most of the film's cast-which included Patton Oswalt, Katie Crown, Kristen Bell, and Ben Schwartz-reprising their roles, though Josh Gad and David Spade weren't included. The latter were replaced by Keith Ferguson and J.P. Manoux.

Virtual Journey: Dimensional Mayhem (2022-present)[]

A second spin-off television series, titled Dimensional Mayhem, was produced by Paramount Television Animation and distributed by Paramount Worldwide Television Licensing & Distribution for the Paramount+ streaming service. Patton Oswalt, Katie Crown, Kristen Bell and Ben Schwartz returned from the previous series, and featured returning voice members Josh Gad and David Spade from the films.

Virtual Journey: The Game (2009)[]

A video game based on the film was added as a promotional tie-in with the film's marketing. The game followed the same premise of the film, and was developed by Blue Tongue Entertainment for the console ports, and Altron for the DS port, and was published by THQ and distributed by Paramount Digital Entertainment on June 2, 2009 in North America, on June 12, 2009 in Europe, and on September 17, 2009 in Japan.

Virtual Journey: Level Two (2013)[]

A video game based on Level Two was developed by Canadian developer Behaviour Interactive, published by Sega and distributed by Paramount Digital Entertainment. It was released on April 12, 2013 in North America, on April 20, 2013 in Europe and on June 16, 2013 in Japan.

Virtual Journey: Next Dimensions (2017)[]

A video game based on Next Dimensions was developed by Behaviour Interactive, published by Sega and distributed by Paramount Digital Entertainment. It was released on April 2, 2017 worldwide.

Lego Virtual Journey (2021)[]

As part of the marketing of Virtual Journey: Game Changer, Traveller's Tales developed Lego Virtual Journey, a Lego-themed platform action-adventure video game and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It was released on May 11, 2021 worldwide.
